San Mateo County
One of the larger suburbs in the San Francisco peninsula, but one of the smaller counties by land area, San Mateo is located in the bustling high-tech region of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Santa Cruz mountains wrap around the coastline as numerous creeks and coastal streams run through the county to San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
With over 15 parks and 800 shops and restaurants, San Mateo has one of the larger, more well-developed downtown locations in the Bay Area, dotted with historic buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Caltrain location downtown and quick access to San Francisco International Airport at the north end of the county makes for an easy commute, and makes the county a central location for many homes and businesses.
